Firesafe and firetested ball valves carry a secondary metal to metal seal behind the primary soft seat, so if the primary seat burns away in a fire, the valve still holds a seal well enough to maintain isolation. This construction is tested and certified to API 607 or API 6FA standards, which simulate a fire event and confirm the valve limits leakage to an acceptable rate even after the primary seat fails. In services where a fire could otherwise turn a valve failure into an uncontrolled release, this design provides the last line of defense.
Common Applications
Hydrocarbon service where fire exposure is a credible risk
Refinery and petrochemical plant isolation
Offshore platform shutoff valves
Any application requiring API 607 or API 6FA certification
