A slab gate valve uses a single solid flat gate that slides through the body to block or open the flow path, rather than the wedge shape found in standard gate valves. Seats on either side of the gate are typically spring loaded or self relieving, pressing against the gate to maintain a seal across a wide pressure and temperature range without depending on the gate’s own geometry to create the seal. This construction handles pressure from either direction equally well, which makes it a common choice in pipeline service where flow direction can reverse.
Common Applications
Pipeline block valve service with bidirectional flow
High pressure gas and liquid pipeline isolation
Applications requiring fire safe, fugitive emission rated sealing
Cryogenic and high temperature service with appropriate seat selection
