A non slam check valve uses a spring assisted closure mechanism that begins shutting the disc before flow actually reverses, timing the closure to coincide with the moment forward flow velocity drops to zero. This eliminates the brief backflow surge that causes the loud slam and pressure spike associated with standard swing check valves, protecting piping, supports, and adjacent equipment from repeated shock loading. Spring rate is selected specifically to match the expected flow conditions, so the disc closes promptly without slamming or lingering open too long.
Common Applications
High velocity pump discharge lines prone to water hammer
Applications with frequent pump start and stop cycles
Cooling water and process lines requiring surge protection
Systems where piping supports are sensitive to shock loading
