A non lubricated plug valve replaces the sealant film used in lubricated designs with a resilient coating, typically PTFE or a similar polymer, bonded directly to the plug or sleeve surface to create the seal. Because the coating itself provides the sealing surface, this design eliminates the need for periodic sealant injection and the maintenance that comes with it, while still delivering the low torque, quarter turn operation typical of plug valves. The tradeoff is a lower temperature and pressure ceiling than a lubricated design, since the polymer coating has service limits that a metal to metal sealed valve does not.
Common Applications
General process isolation without sealant maintenance
Corrosive chemical service compatible with PTFE
Moderate pressure and temperature applications
Facilities looking to reduce routine maintenance requirements
