A concentric butterfly valve centers the disc directly on the shaft, both on the pipe centerline, so the disc rotates through the same plane every time it opens or closes. This straightforward geometry keeps the design compact and lightweight compared to gate or globe valves of the same size, since the entire mechanism fits within a thin wafer body rather than requiring a bonnet and rising stem. The tradeoff is that the disc edge contacts the seat across its full rotation, which limits this design to moderate pressure and temperature service compared to the offset designs built for more demanding conditions.
Common Applications
General on/off and throttling service in low to moderate pressure lines
Water treatment and utility isolation
HVAC and cooling water systems
Applications where compact, lightweight installation matters
