A fixed choke valve reduces flow through a permanently sized orifice, called a bean, that creates a controlled pressure drop as fluid passes through the restriction. Because the orifice size never changes during operation, the pressure drop and flow rate stay locked to whatever bean size was installed, giving a stable, predictable restriction without the wear points that come with moving parts. This simplicity makes fixed chokes a dependable choice in wellhead applications, where the flow condition to be controlled is known and fairly constant over the choke’s service life.
Common Applications
Wellhead flow restriction on stable production streams
Applications where flow conditions remain relatively constant
Backup or standby positions alongside adjustable chokes
Low maintenance service where simplicity is prioritized
